Scholarship support is a critical factor in a student’s decision-making process. The best often receive full scholarships from other universities who are able to offer more support because of their well-established endowments. Private philanthropy is essential in recruiting the best students.

Consider these facts

• Medical students today graduate with an average debt of more than $120,000.
• Medical school tuition and fees have risen much faster than inflation, while physicians’ income has not kept pace.
• The cost of attending UB has risen from $1,600 per year in 1976 to $18,800 per year in 2008.
